The Chuck Jones Gallery is thrilled to announce one of the most gloriously anticipated Dr. Seuss Rare Treasures art releases of all time, “Archbishop Katz in His Cathedral”. This magnificent modern work of art features Dr. Seuss's ubiquitous Cat as the playful embodiment of a most revered figure inside his multi-colored abstract cathedral. But that is only the surface; this work goes much deeper than that. It is a paean to friendship. Besides becoming friends with Chuck Jones during his service in Frank Capra’s WWII film group, Ted Geisel also became close to Lee Katz who served under Capra at the same time. Lee Katz first appeared in “Joseph Katz”, a now long-sold out edition, and this turn as the grand “Archbishop Katz in His Cathedral” is the culmination of their friendship. But it wouldn’t be a Seuss work without its whimsical poke at cultural sacred cows. Katz lived in the Palos Verde area of southern California and Seuss visited often. The cathedral in this work of art is most likely a tribute to Lloyd Wright’s (son of Frank Lloyd Wright) Wayfarer Chapel near the Villa Narcissa. And of course, who ever heard of an Archbishop Katz? His friend’s Jewish name the counterpoint to the Christian Archbishop. Right now, “Archbishop Katz in His Cathedral” is at an extraordinary opening price of only $1,895 unframed. Just like “Joseph Katz”, “Cat from the Wrong Side of the Tracks”, “Wisdom Cat”, “Green Cat with Lights” and the other “Cat” works, we expect the edition to sell out quickly. Measuring an impressive 36” x 25” unframed, this beautiful serigraph on acid-free canvas is a must for collectors of the Rare Treasures of Dr. Seuss.
